Squad Structure, Training Focus, Meet Pathway & Recommended Gear
We group swimmers by stage and skill level so they can train with the right intensity and focus.

 

O Squad —  Age: 16+ | Pinnacle Performance
Sessions: 6–8 per week, plus 1–2 gym sessions when applicable
Goal: Pinnacle meets
Key meets: NZ Championships, NZ Short Course, and other selected pinnacle meets.
Recommended gear: Full training kit, including fins, paddles, snorkel, pull buoy, ankle band, drink bottle, and poolside snacks

 

A Squad —  Age: 13+ | Race to Win
Sessions: 5–8 swim sessions, plus 1–2 gym sessions when applicable
Goal: Qualify for Short Course and NAGs
Recommended gear: Full training kit, including short fins, finger paddles or hand paddles, snorkel, ankle band, pull buoy, drink bottle, and snacks

 

B Squad — Age: Approx. 10–14 | Train to Race
Sessions:
10 & under: 3–5 per week
11 & over: 4–6 per week
Goal: Qualify for SI Champs, Tier 1, and Division 2 meets
Recommended gear: Short fins, finger paddles, pull buoy, and drink bottle

 

C Squad — Age: 9–11 | Learn to Train
Sessions: 3–5 per week
Goal: Progress toward B Squad, with a focus on skills and key event targets
Recommended gear: Short fins, finger paddles, pull buoy, and drink bottle

 

D Squad — Age: 8–10 | Sprint and Skill Development
Sessions: 2–3 per week
Goal: Build strong technique across all four strokes, including turns and skills
Recommended gear: Short fins and pull buoy
